Holiday Recap

We had a lovely day at our holiday gathering today.

Gwen showed a stunning sports-themed quilt she made for her grandson.  It has a deep blue Minky on the back.  He is going to love it.

Dianne quilted her one of a kind piece.  It is really beautiful.  We tried to convince her to enter it into the Farm Park show and tear up the evaluation without looking at it (since they have been known to have questionable judgment).  She also finished a very sweet quilt with a cute border print on the back.

Judy brought her Mary Ellen Hopkins challenge piece.  I am so amazed at her fabric selection and design.  It is a really creative and successful piece but, hey, that’s Judy!

Speaking of works of art, Judy brought her own edible arrangement creation.

Jan made some adorable and tasty mice.

Speaking of lunch, here’s a link to the soup recipe that I served today.  I made two changes to the recipe as written, besides serving the rice on the side. I left out the allspice and I mistakenly bought (and used) fire-roasted tomatoes.  If your holiday plans involve ham, I highly recommend this soup recipe.  As the blog post says, it seems like another ham, bean, and greens soup but it was really stellar.
Kathy brought one half of Cari’s wedding quilt and she pinned it to Lori’s half so they could be sewn together.  Kathy brought the backing, too, ready to go.  After lunch, we roped the group into a pinning-bee so we could get the quilt pin-basted.  No photos yet because we don’t want any spoilers, but it is really sharp.  If her taste is anything like her mom, she is going to love it.  We’ll present it to her pinned then take it back to quilt it and mail it to her when it is finished.  We made a valiant effort to get it done.  The Friendship Group was very responsive in turning in the blocks but the holidays put us over the edge time-wise.  That’s ok.  It will be a great gift for the newlyweds.
Thanks to everyone for coming. Lunch was fabulous.  It was a great way to spend the day before the peak of the holiday craziness kicks in.  For the Divas who were unable to make it, rest assured that we talked about you in glowing terms.  That includes our honorary Diva Candy, too.  Happy Holidays!
